The French capital has a reputation for being a destination for romantics and, with its historic buildings, outstanding cuisine and cultural attractions, it’s one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations. It’s situated in the north of France, on the banks of the River Seine.

The Paris area was originally inhabited by the Gauls, but a settlement was first established there by the Romans. The city has had a turbulent history, but today it is the economic and administrative centre of France and one of the world’s leading business centres. Paris attractions

Eiffel Tower
Paris is a vast city and has many famous landmarks, including the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame de Paris and the Basilique du Sacré-Cœur. One of the best ways in which to get your bearings is to take a narrated boat trip on the River Seine, but beware the glass roofed boats can get unbearably hot on a sunny day.

Art galleries and museums
The city is known for its many art galleries and museums, which include the Musée d’Orsay, the Musée Rodin and the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie (Le Cité). The most famous museum in Paris, however, is the Louvre, which houses more than 35,000 works of art, including masterpieces such as the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo, the Winged Victory of Samothrace and Michelangelo’s The Slave. One of its most dramatic features is the huge glass pyramid designed by I. M. Pei, which acts as an entrance for the six million people who visit the museum each year.
