Regions
India is a country of diverse cities and natural wonders. New Delhi, the capital city, is host to India’s government and is a mixture of modern British architecture and historic monuments. The beaches of Goa are popular tourist destinations, but in the south west of the country, the city of Thiruvananthapuram (referred to by Ghandi as the ‘Evergreen city of India’) is the gateway to the alternative beach resorts of Kovalam and Varkala. The city of Kochi (formerly known as Cochin), in the south-east, is a principal Indian seaport and remains a cultural mixture thanks to its colonial past. Chennai, formerly known as Madras, is India’s fourth largest city and is a major transport hub, making it an excellent place from which to start your holiday in India.
