Tokyo information

Tokyo is the capital of Japan and also its biggest city, although not actually technically considered to be a city. Tokyo is situated on the east side of the island of Honshu and was formed in 1943 with the merger of the city of Tokyo and Tokyo-fu. There are twenty three wards of Tokyo and each of them is governed as a city.

Tokyo is considered to be one of the three main "command centres" for the world economy, along with London and New York City. Tokyo was named as the most expensive city in the world to live in as an expatriate employee and also named the world's third most Liveable City. The Japanese government and the Imperial Palace are based in Tokyo and the city is also home to the Japanese Imperial Family.
