More about the Maldives

What to do in the Maldives

Water sports
Many people who travel to the Maldives have some form of water sports or beach activity in mind. With crystal clear waters and beautiful shorelines, sun, sand and surf are top of the agenda. Scuba diving is hugely popular in the Maldives, as is snorkelling, sailing, surfing and fishing.

Cruises by boat are also popular for tourists arriving on flights to the Maldives. Cruise liners take you island hopping around the Hulhule islands or to Utheemu Island from a glimpse of the country’s past.

Sightseeing
There are a number of historical sites, monuments, buildings and parks to visit when you travel to the Maldives. Popular places to visit in the Maldives are Sultan Park, a public park in the capital Malé which contains what is left of a royal palace that was destroyed in the 16th century. The remains are now the National Museum, an Edwardian colonial-style three-storey building.

The park and museum offer a unique glimpse at the heritage and history of the Maldives. Also worth seeing is Hukuru Miski, the oldest mosque in the Maldives.
