Kathmandu is the capital of Nepal, and its biggest city. The city stands near to its two sister cities, Patan and Bhaktapur, and is considered to be the focal point of Kathmandu Valley. The city of Kathmandu now houses over 700,000 people.

Kathmandu is situated at a high area above sea level, in between the four mountains; Chandragiri, Phulchowki, Nagarjun and Shivapuri. Kathmandu is also considered to be the central hub for tourism in Nepal, attracting visitors interested in its almost 2000 year old history. Kathmandu has been dubbed the primary economic and cultural region of all of Nepal, also considered to have the most robust and growing infrastructure out of all cities in Nepal.

Swayambhu
Swayambhu, meaning "The Self-manifested Lord", sits on a steep hill in the north west of Kathmandu. The main attraction to the area is that Buddha is said to have sown the lotus seeds that later grew into a giant, jeweled lotus. The building itself consists of three main areas; the base, dome and spire which represent the three kayas. Around the bottom area are various spinning wheels to be used by visitors, it is said that the wheels generate blessings and mantras.

Narayanhiti Palace Museum
The Narayanhiti Palace Museum first opened its doors in 2009, exactly nine months after the abolition of the monarchy. The museum is actually based on the seat of the King and nineteen different residences used by the royal family. The museum has various exhibits including the belongings of former Kings and other members of the royal family who resided at the Palace. The prize attraction is the diamond encrusted crown of the King, along with clothing of previous royals.
