Casablanca information
Casablanca is located in western Morocco and is the capital of the Greater Casablanca region. Casablanca is Morocco's largest city housing a population of over 3,250,000 inhabitants. One of the largest artificial ports in the world is located in Casablanca, providing a base for the Royal Moroccan Navy.
It is thought that the city was first inhabited more than 1400 years ago by the Berbers. More recently the city has become synonymous with the French since they conquered the city in the early 1900’s; however Casablanca actually gained independence in 1956. Since then Casablanca has developed into the main contributor to the growth of the Moroccan Economy and is continually being developed and renovated.

Casablanca attractions
Hassan II Mosque
The Hassan II Mosque is the largest of its kind in the whole of Morocco and is the third largest Mosque in the world. The mosque was built by the Bouygues (the mosque was built on reclaimed land) and was originally designed by Michel Pinseau. Including the adjoining grounds, Hassan II Mosque can accommodate over 100,000 worshippers at any one time. A large restoration effort began on the building in 1986 and was finally finished in 1993, thousands of construction workers and designers worked on the project.
Parc de la Ligue Arabe
Situated in the centre of Casablanca, the Parc de la Ligue Arabe is home to many varieties of flora, fauna and trees. There is a play area in the centre of the park for children including Harley Davidson style motorbikes, dodgems, various art work, caterpillar ride, planes and a scooter. Either side of the pathway through the park is palm trees originally planted in 1918. |
