Beirut information
Beirut is the largest city in Lebanon and its capital. Beirut houses the largest seaport in Lebanon and has a population of over 2 million. The city itself can be traced back to its origins earlier than 1500 B.C. being populated all throughout its history.
Many different civilisations have affected the culture in Beirut, most notably the Arabs, Romans and Greeks. As a result there are hundreds of art galleries in Beirut depicting the changes in influence throughout the city's history. The city is considered to also be the most religiously diverse of all the Middle East, with over 10 major religious communities in the area. Beirut being dubbed "the party capital of the Arab world" has attracted many travelers and wealthy Arabs in recent years!

Beirut attractions
National Museum of Beirut The National Museum of Beirut houses a wide variety of collections and artifacts including pieces from the Bronze Age, Iron Age, Hellenistic period, Roman period, Byzantine period and Arab Conquest/Mamluk period. The museum was first founded in 1919 when, a French Officer, Raymond Weill put his small collection of ancient artifacts on display. A huge restoration project was set into motion in 1995 in order to rebuild the museum as it had sustained much damage in the Lebanese war.
Agial Art Gallery Agial Art Gallery was first opened in 1990 and displays works from the Arab art world. The exhibitions include various arts from Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, Sudan, Syria, Egypt and Bahrain, as well as many other smaller pieces from other locations. As well as the various sculptures, ceramics and paintings there is a good selection of Arab books.
